Artistic partners since 1992, the Vienna-based duo Markus Muntean and Adi Rosenblum work in a variety of media but are best known for their paintings of youthful figures lifted from the pages of fashion magazines and placed in compellingly ambiguous compositions. The works are executed in a comic book style with subdued colours, edged with a white border and marked at the bottom with a line or two of pseudo- philosophical musings. Commenting on their collaboration, Muntean says: "This double authorship has the same function as the white frame or margins, which puts the painting into brackets. These white frames or margins of course have connotations in terms of comics or TV monitors. They allow us to deal with very painterly issues and iconographies, and questions of authorship."
